Cotopaxi National Park
Situated in Cotopaxi National Park lies the Cotopaxi volcano. Cotopaxi volcano stands 50 kilometers south of Ecuador’s capital city, Quito. To the north west is a volcano named Ruminawi and to the south east is a volcano Sincholagua. Cotopaxi is among the highest active volcanoes in the world. When the most recent eruption occurred, it began in August 2015 and ended January 2016. Cotopaxi volcano is 19,393 feet tall so even though the climate around it is warm, it is high enough to get snow. Cotopaxi means “smooth neck of the moon” in Quechua. Cotopaxi National Park is a major tourist attraction due to its beautiful views and activities.
